The Howard University Department of African Studies presents the 2024 Summer Leadership Institute, Creating Global Leaders for Tomorrow, Empowering Youth for Today: Africa's Languages, Cultures, and Traditions. This is an interactive and experiential event for students in high school, grades 10-12. It will be held from June 24 - August 2, 2024. Darline Washington is currently conducting her undergraduate research project under the guidance of Dr. Flordeliz T. Bugarin, Associate Professor in the Department of African Studies. Her research is centered on the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa, with a focus on the impacts of forced removals and informal settlements resulting from governmental agendas, environmental policies, and the creation of game parks.
